Q: Will I have to manage my diabetes by myself while at camp? A: No Limits Diabetes Camp strives towards independence in the care and management of your own diabetes; we want our campers to take initiative! However, help is ALWAYS close at hand. We have a fantastic and knowledgeable staff monitoring each camper and always willing to help. In addition, our medical staff checks in with each camper to review blood sugar levels and to help make adjustments.
Q: Why camp?/ What will I do and learn at camp? A: Being a teenager is already pretty tough, with school, transitions, and figuring out who you are! What happens when you add diabetes into the mix? How do you manage your diabetes through beginning high school, learning to drive, or starting college? Through daily diabetes education sessions, No Limits works to answer these questions and more. We discuss the topics that are most relevant to teenagers today and how diabetes plays a role. Our goal is to help teens take initiative to gain independence with their diabetes. They accomplish this while forming strong community with other teens who are facing the same challenges. The relationships formed while at camp often become a diabetic's greatest support system. In addition to learning about great diabetes management skills, camp is a week full of new challenges, overcoming fears, and outrageous fun! Some of the program activities include paintball, horse riding, zip lining, campfires, swimming, and more! All of these activities are designed to show that there are no limits with diabetes and that diabetes does not define who you are or who you can become.
